We will gather for the start behind Regal Movie Theater that's part of Pohatcong Plaza in Phillipsburg NJ. This in one of several shopping centers clustered around the US22 / I-78 Intersection. There is a nearby Wawa is open 24 hours and has bathrooms inside. The finish control at Frank's Tratoria is a short distance across the shopping center.
Park the Regal Movie theater at the start, which is also near the finish control, Franks Trattoria Italian restaurant, located between the Old Navy and the Regal movie theater in Pohatcong Plaza. Leave the parking spots by the shops to the day patrons, Park at some distance away. Park as shown in this map. If you need coffee or breakfast, there is a Wawa nearby, across from the WalMart. Do not leave your car over by the Wawa or WalMart as we have had some trouble with the "Walmart Parking Lot Security Team" in the past.
Suggested parking locations for the start/finish are public places, with theft and vandalism a real possibility, especially in cities. Park during the event at your own risk. Please do not leave valuables in your car during the ride.

The finish gathering place is Franks Trattoria Italian restaurant located between the Stop-n-Shop and the Regal movie theater in Pohatcong Plaza. It's a short ride back to the Wawa from there.

Starting from the Regal Pohatcong in Phillipsburg, we follow the Musconetcong creek through Warren Glen to the Delaware, then to a controle in Milford at the Bridge St Bagel. We then head over to Little York where we climb up over Jugtown mountain on Sweet Hollow Road, then descend Tunnel Rd into Asbury. At Asbury, we follow the Musconetcong River north to Port Murray where we head over the ridge to the Great Meadows controle. The route continues to points north to Allamuchy, Tranquility and into the Quick Check in Lafayette. We then head west and then south into Swartswood State Park where we stop at the quaint Geo. D. Garris General Store in Stillwater.
Returning on mildly rolling roads through Blairstown we then follow the Paulins Kill, passing through two Lackawanna Cutoff Tunnels, and under the Paulinskill Viaduct, at one time (1910) the largest reinforced concrete structure in the world. From there it's just a short ride over the Columbia-Portland pedestrian bridge back into Portland and then down the Delaware the usual way through Belvidire, the last little grunt over the hill in Harmony, and then down to the finish in Philipsburg.
This route is an old PA Rando classic that we have sometimes ridden in the Winter. Although there are many wide, well mantained roads, there are more country lanes in this route than in the H2NH route. Beware of the possibility of black ice and road debris. As usual, there are several steep, extended climbs. Wide range gearing is recommended.

This ride is a randonneur style bicycle event under the sanction of Randonneurs USA. Completing this event can help you train for Paris-Brest-Paris and earn RUSA awards. You need a current RUSA membership to ride this event. You can sign up for RUSA here.
First time riding with PA Randonneurs? Read an overview of what to expect on your first PA brevet. All participants are obliged to follow the rules for riders as well as local vehicle laws (PA, NJ, NY). Safety is a primary concern. All riders must sign a waiver. Please read these Safety Instructions.
To receive credit for finishing a randonneuring event you must complete a brevet card as required by the rules. PA Randonneurs accepts traditional brevet cards filled out with stamps/signatures and backed up with merchant receipts. PA Randonneurs encourages use of the eBrevet cell phone app. (Version 1.3 minimum required) as an electronic brevet card assistant. Nevertheless, you must check into all controls on the app -- or provide traditional proof for each control. Your finish time and finish code from the app must be written on the paper card, along with your signature, or you may be disqualified.
These events are not for beginners. The courses are hilly. You may face extremes of weather: heat, cold, wind, rain. The roads are unmarked and open to automobile traffic. There will be night riding in the longer events. Complete several ordinary century cycling events before starting a 200K brevet; complete several 200Ks before starting a longer brevet.
