Start Location

College Hill Wawa

225 Cattell Street
Easton, PA 18042
(610) 253-4312

The start location at the College Hill is a traditional PA Randonneur start finish venue, dating back to the early days of the club. This Wawa is located in College Hill, a residential neighborhood situated on the hill overlooking downtown Easton. The  hill was once known as Mount Lafayette, and before that, Mount Washington. The northern boundary of the neighborhood  lies along Chestnut Ridge, an even taller hill that rises to 700 feet. Basically this means that every ride from College Hill must start with a climb, or finish with a climb, sometimes both.

There are no bathroom facilities at the College Hill Wawa.

Parking

You may legally park curbside along the roads to the East of Cattell Street (same side as Wawa) and above High St (north of Wawa). Parking is legal for most of the day in almost all locations. There are signs that say "No Parking" that seem off-putting, but these are usually good places to park. Careful reading of the sign reveals that overnight parking is prohibited, but parking during the day is just fine. Don't park where it says 3 Hour Parking near the Wawa. Park back past Porter Street  and Monroe for best selection of spots. You can also park up near the Finish Control on Parker Ave or Pennsylvania Ave.

Suggested parking locations for the start/finish are public places, with theft and vandalism a real possibility, especially in cities. Park during the event at your own risk. Please do not leave valuables in your car during the ride.

Lodging

Traveling far? Overnight accommodations are available at several hotels in Easton. Make your own reservations by calling the hotel directly. One option is the Holiday Inn Express at 90 Kunkle Dr, Easton PA. Somwhat less expensive is the Quality Inn at 2415 Nazareth Rd.

Finish

The post ride gathering is likely to be at Café Nadovich. To get back to your parked car near the Wawa, just go downhill.

Ride Description

BelvidereThis populaire is a shortened version of the Fall Neo Classic 2000K. It begins with a brisk descent off College Hill,  there are a series of "warm up climbs" over South Mountain (s)  that might have you questioning your life goals just a few minutes into the ride. The climbs eventually relent as we approach the first control, the Dublin Wawa, about 30 miles into the ride. From there things get a bit calmer for a while and we work our way to the Delaware, crossing at Milford and the Milford Market Control.

From Milford we climb Jugtown Mountain with Sweet Hollow, which is pleasant enough. But then there's another climb of Jugtown at Mountain View? And yet another at Montana? At least the course goes DOWN Fiddler's Elbow!  We follow the Delaware some more, reaching Belvedere and the Skoogies Deli control. Populaire riders turn back southwest here. The ride threads through the beautiful Little Martin's Creek and Mud Run area, and enjoys a "bonus climb"  (populaire exclusive!) over Paxinosa ridge into the finish at Cafè Nadovich.
