General Info
This ride is a randonneur style event sanctioned by RUSA, offered to promote participation in the R-12 challenge.  PA Randonneurs club membership is required in order to participate.  In the spirit of pure randonneuring, minimal support is provided before, during, and after the ride.

First time riding with PA Randonneurs?  Read an overview of what to expect on your first PA brevet. All participants are obliged to follow the rules for riders as well as PA and NJ vehicle laws.  Safety is a primary concern ... please read and carry these Safety Instructions with you.  All participants must sign waiver.

Start/Finish (
new location 11/9)
The Shoppes of Landis Valley
Lancaster, PA

Parking
Please park proximate to the main sign with clock/temp at the driveway entrance from Landis Valley Rd. Carpooling is encouraged as parking is limited.

Preride Breakfast
Breakfast is available nearby at the Oregon Dairy Restaurant, approximately 1 mile north of the start location along SR 272.  The food is good and plentiful and there's even a breakfast buffet.  The baked oatmeal is one of my favorites.  The restaurant opens at 6am which leaves ample time for breakfast and to make you way to the start.

Traveling far? Hotels are available in the area.
Make your own reservations by calling the hotel directly.

Ride Report and Pictures
Ride Description
Enjoy a new twist on Lancaster County with a north-south route with a start-finish in the middle. The Little Britain route starts just north of Lancaster near the Landis Valley Farm Museum. The opening loop heads north toward Berks County and the first control in Wommelsdorf, passing through the Middle Creek Wildlife management area along the way. Look for a variety of waterfowl as you pass, especially Snow Geese. The route heads south, but along a different path that will take you over the Furnace Hills, cross the outbound leg in Durlach, and return via Clay to the start location which is also the second control. It's an open control so you'll have your choice to get your card validated.
The southern loop heads east toward Intercourse before turning south through numerous named wide spots in the road: Bellemont, Nickel Mines, Nine Points. Don't blink or you'll miss them. As you might guess, services are limited in this area so you'd be wise to check your supplies before leaving the Landis Valley control. Little Britain marks the southern end of the loop with a control at the Little Britain Store. It has everything you need. The final legs head north through Quarryville, Strasburg and Smoketown before returning you to the finish. There are a few hills to climb along the way. But there are some that offer glorious descents, too.
